Quick answer
Iced heat pumps on farm lots, propane and gas furnaces, central air in the Edgewood-area subdivisions: as an HVAC contractor in Trenton, OH, Comfort Air Solutions covers all of it. Our trucks come via I-75 and SR 73 in about half an hour, and emergency service runs 24 hours a day.
Trenton is a small Butler County city that doesn't feel small anymore. New neighborhoods have filled open ground around town, and the Edgewood City Schools district has grown right along with them. The setting hasn't changed: Trenton sits just west of the Great Miami River between Middletown and Hamilton, with working farmland still close at hand.
We reach Trenton in about half an hour from our Miamisburg shop, heading south on I-75 and cutting west on SR 73. That keeps it well within reach for tune-ups, installs and after-hours repairs.
Trenton homes and the HVAC problems we see
Three kinds of homes, three kinds of systems
Older homes near the center of town usually have gas furnaces that have been swapped once or twice, sometimes on ductwork that's much older than the equipment. Farmhouses outside town are another story: no natural gas at the road, so heat pumps, propane furnaces or dual-fuel pairings are the norm.
The subdivisions mostly run gas furnaces with split AC, with all-electric heat pumps in some sections. Builders tended to choose basic equipment, and the first round of replacements is starting now.
Heat pumps take up a lot of our Trenton time. An Ohio winter tests them hard — defrost cycles, auxiliary heat strips, outdoor coils encased in ice after freezing rain. Heat pump repair here often comes down to a defrost board, a coil sensor or a reversing valve rather than an entire new system.

Local to Trenton
From the river to the township line
We work throughout Trenton: the older streets around the town center, the newer neighborhoods near the Edgewood schools, and the homes along the Great Miami River and out into the surrounding Butler County farmland. SR 4 and SR 73 are our usual ways in.
A typical winter scenario out here: a heat pump on a rural lot keeps running, the house slowly loses ground, and the outdoor coil is a solid block of ice. Usually a defrost control or sensor has failed, so the unit never switches over to melt the ice, and the backup heat strips are carrying the whole load at a steep cost. We diagnose it, replace the failed part, verify the refrigerant charge and make sure auxiliary heat and the thermostat are staging correctly.
Open ground also means exposure. After a summer thunderstorm, we inspect condensers for hail-flattened fins, wind-blown debris and damaged disconnects — our storm damage HVAC repair page explains what we check before restarting a unit. Trenton calls often pair with work in Hamilton the same afternoon.
Heating and cooling a Trenton home, in town or out in the fields
Trenton counted about 13,000 residents at the 2020 census, about half again its size of twenty years earlier, and much of that growth landed on former cropland. The Edgewood district that serves the city also reaches Seven Mile and Wayne Township, so a single school bus route can pass a 1920s house on State Street, a new two-story and a farmhouse on propane. Each needs a different approach.
Which setup fits which Trenton home
| Home type | Typical system | Worth checking |
|---|---|---|
| Older house near the town center | Natural gas furnace on older ductwork, central AC added later | Return-air sizing, chimney venting if the water heater stayed in the flue, duct leaks in the crawlspace |
| Farmhouse beyond the city limits | Propane furnace, heat pump or dual fuel | LP tank level before cold weather, dual-fuel switchover temperature, condenser mounted high enough for drifting snow |
| Subdivision home, gas side | 90% gas furnace with a split AC | Condensate trap and drain, inducer and pressure switch, airflow to upstairs bedrooms |
| Subdivision home, all-electric | Heat pump with electric strip backup | Defrost board and sensor, strip-heat staging, thermostat set for heat pump operation |
Winter wind: a heat pump checklist for open lots
- Keep the outdoor unit on a riser or wall bracket so it sits above drifting snow off neighboring fields.
- Clear ice from the top grille only by letting the defrost cycle work; chipping at it bends fins and can puncture tubing.
- Watch the emergency or auxiliary heat indicator. If it stays lit for hours on a mild day, the heat pump itself has probably stopped carrying the load.
- Leave at least a couple of feet around the unit clear of fencing or plantings so wind doesn't trap cold discharge air against the coil.
Summer on the edge of cropland
In late summer and early fall, harvest dust and chaff drift off neighboring fields and settle into condenser coils. Near the river, cottonwood fluff does the same thing in June. A matted coil pushes head pressure up and makes the compressor work harder through a July heat wave. A gentle rinse from the inside out, plus a spring air conditioning tune-up, keeps a Trenton outdoor unit breathing. If farm dust is also showing up indoors, better filtration from our indoor air quality service is worth a conversation.

Why Trenton residents choose Comfort Air Solutions
Heat pump know-how for open country
Wind across the flat fields east and west of town pulls heat off outdoor coils fast. We check defrost timing, sensor placement and auxiliary heat staging on every Trenton heat pump so the strips aren't quietly running the electric bill up all winter.
Propane, gas or both
Homes in town usually have natural gas on State Street; many past the city limits rely on propane. Our combustion analysis covers either fuel, and we set dual-fuel switchover points to match what you actually pay.
Storm checks, not guesswork
Summer storms rolling in off the Great Miami valley can bend fins, pack condensers with debris and trip disconnects. We document storm damage with photos and plain-English notes, which also helps if you decide to talk to your insurer.
Owner oversight on installs
When a builder-grade system in one of the newer neighborhoods near the Edgewood schools is due for replacement, Kevin Turner checks in on the job himself, and you get several written options first.
